"Henschel Reels A NEW CONCEPT in fly reels is offered by the German made Henschel Dual-Mode. This design uses state-of-the-art machinery and technology and, although priced at nearly 415.

The Dual-Mode has one important quality that sets this reel apart from the normal type. Its mechanism allows the handle to go turned only in the retrieving direction, yet the spool will pay out line under required tension of the clutch. The result is the benefit of a diret drive via the handle, for retrieving a fighting fish, while still keeping control when if the fish has asurging run, without the handles spinning.

Most anglers can relate to having lost a fish or two when their band got in the way af the handle at the critical moment.

It is constructed from quality bar stock aluminium, complemented by stainless steel ancillary items. The frame is machined as a single unit and is close drilled for lightness with the strengthening struts used as line guides.

Fitting closely inside the frame is the spool and the close tolerances between the two avoid unwanted debris inside the reel.

As described, the dual-mode means that the handle is connected to the central spindle to allow it to spin inside the rim of the spool. The clise fit between these items negates any possibility of catching the fly line in the mechanism.

A central knurled knob contrls infinitely variable drag settings and is easily accessible when required.

The drag is very smooth with a nice progressive action which was tested with a spring balance. The accuracy was quite impressive, it only varied a few grammes whether the line was tugged violently or quite softly. It was felt, however, that amount of backlash produced by the handle could be reduced.

The reel weighs 260g although weight saving has been exploited to the full. Most of this weight is attrivuted to the spindle, needle roller bearing and drag mechanism, all of which are stainless steel. So comfort can be taken from the fact this reel is built to last.
